The EU keeps threatening this sort of thing too, even to the extent of
suggesting that the fitting of non-OE replacement parts would constitute
"altering the original manufacturer's specification". Already, in France, it
is almost impossible to change anything on your car without express
permission from the government, and you can take one guess at how often they
grant it. You want to mod your engine? try moving to another country and do
it there - its simpler.
I understand that changing the ride height of a car is illegal in Japan too.
