RE: battery drain while parked - why?

I have been advised that the 5KTQ WAGONs have a substandard
alternator from the factory, smaller Vs the 5KTQ sedans. The
wagons actually have even more power consumers, so this does
not really make sense to me, but, there you go.... I hear there was
a factory 'upgrade' to a smaller dia alt pulley to spin it a bit 
faster, but that sounds like a band-aid and not a fix to me.
Anyone replace a 5KTQW alt with the bigger 5KTQ sedan unit and/or
hear this same story? I do know that our wagon experiences more
frequent 'no-start' episodes Vs the sedan and tends to eat batteries, so
there may be truth in this.....
