compressor conversion

Dave asked what compressor model # I used ?
Any compressor will work as long as it is classified as an SD 508. The SD
stands for single displacement, and the 508 must relate to output. The York
SD 508 that came in my 85 GT. Coupe was a disturbingly loud, power
consuming, anchor. That was the common comp for the 4000's and the Coupe's.
The 5000's used a rotary setup but it is of a different nature. The rotary
SD 508 I replaced it with was manufactured by Sankio (something like that)
and was donated by a late 80's Golf. However I had to manufacture a custom
mounting bracket and modify the lines for clearance of the oil filter.
Otherwise I believe it to be more efficient, unnoticeable when the A/C is
turned on, and does the same, if not better cooling job. Every thing else
is there just replace the evaporator (recommended when opening the system),
and acquire the proper size belt, depending on position of the comp. Most
auto part depots have a selection of belts in 5 -10 mm increments. I'm
proud of this achievement and it works great.
