Re: Switching from the k24 to the k26 on the dual knock motor
Hi Bruce,
The motor I have is the MC with the single knock sensor, not dual.
[snip - something about hybrids]
Could you perhaps explain to me about hybrid turbos. I'm new to this
stuff.
[snip - something about Audi can in dual knock motor]
Once again, my machine is single knock sensor equipped.

How can I check for play on the turbo while still mounted to the
manifold? Play in turbo could be responsible for some of the rumbles
and hums I get from the motor.
As for ECU, I'm doing my own. Scott M. has helped me alot and I
currently have a code dump for the MAC13A ECU I run. I still need to
map boost curves to increase the boosting, but all will be done by me.
I currently run a simple EPROM copy on the car, the stock chip is
sitting in anti-static foam at my place. :)
So far I have learnt this about the K24 and K26:
1. K24 works well in the lower compression Urq motors
2. The K26 (or hybrid) will show more lag, but give better
high end performance on a higher compression motor
3. Lag from the K26 is compensated for my the higher compression
ratio
4. When lowering the CR, up the turbo size to compensate.
This is contrary to fitting the quicker spooling, smaller
K24 to the Urq with lower CR than the 200t. (see post from
Paul Timmerman)
Now before I go further with any (far off) future plans I am going to
go through the car again tonight and try and confirm the proper turbo
model. My knowledge of this South African thing has been gained from
this list, I will need to verify everything one more time as part
numbers matched to international pieces indicate the 8.4 CR motor.
