I would say that I recall emailing that "someone" my inspection
checklist, and the first item on it is "compression test".

If that someone has not done one, do it now.  If the numbers
are low, add a drop of oil to each cylinder and see if the
value goes up - if it does, you're looking at worn rings.

IThat said, I wouldn't worry as much about oil usage, as I would
about an oil leak.  These engines are built tough, and at 130k
that engine should be barely broken in.

Get the car up on a lift, remove the lower engine cover (which
masks all leaks!) and look around very carefully.  You might also
clean the whole engine lower by steamcleaning/degreasing/brake
cleaner, and then running the car on the lift for 1/2 hour or
so until you find the leak sources.

I mean, your friend needs to :)
