A4 Problems None of you EVER want!

Hi All,
I was visiting Autohaus Porsche, VW and Audi in Lancaster PA this week and
was being shown the last 993 they would get, and also saw a silver A4 on
the lift back in the garage. My friend Jay (salesman) pointed to it and
said "What a shame." I inquired why, as it was not wrecked or anything and
no A4 is more than 2 years old.
He said the guy went to a jiffy lube to get his fluids changed. Apparently
the kid doing the work changed the fluid to the rear diff for the Quattro
system. I don't know if the guy okayed that or not, but Jay told me that is
never supposed to be done (or rarely ever). I am not a quattro owner so
wouldn't know.
Anyway the kid who drained it, also forgot to put the plug back on, or
maybe put it back on incorrectly. Anyway the fluid drained and the rear
diff seized.
I belive Jay said it was a $4000 fix, and NOT under warranty, as the fluid
change is not recomended maintenance and not done by an Audi dealer. I hope
that jiffylube has insurance. Think that owner is a little pissed? My dad
asked me that (he was with me). I told him that I figured if I had an A4
quattro I doubted I'd take it to a jiffy lube.

PS this is a story I was told and my opinion on what I'd do with an A4 I do
not own. I have no first hand experience in examing the Audi or jiffylube,
so this is my disclaimer. LAter
