Power Antenna fails to retract

In the last month or so, the power antenna on my '94 90CSQ occassionally
fails to retract completely. A gentle downward nudge usually does the
trick. But this morning that didn't work. Making it go up again, then down
(engaging the electrical system, I guess, with the key in the ignition)
worked.

What's the cause?

What's the solution? Grease, perhaps?

I'm trying to nip the problem in the bud before the solution involves a
costly new antenna. :-)
