4kq tire/rim fitment
So, I'll be putting a set of snows on the 14" alloys on my "new" '86 4000cs
Quattro sometime in the next day or two, and this has my thoughts turning to
summer, and more specifically, summer tires. In the interest of looking
ahead, I've got a couple of questions.
First up, tires. It's getting impossible to find a good wet/dry tire with
anything approaching grip in 14" sizes. It's also hard to find performance
tires in anything approaching what was considered a normal profile in 1986.
As a result, with me "plus 1"ing the tires, it seems like the best fit in the
category of tires I'm looking at is going to be a 205/50R15. Has anyone tried
to stuff these under the fenders on a 4000q? Did they actually fit?
Next question... rims. I've got a serious dislike for aftermarket alloys of
pretty much every stripe. I figure I'll be looking to buy a set of 15"x5.5"
rims. If I'm going to put on a set of alloys, I'd rather it was an OEM set.
Was there a 15" rim option for the 4000 series cars, and if so did they
happen to be 5.5" wide? Failing that, is there a rim from another Audi
model/year combo that is 15x5.5", and fits both the bolt pattern and offset
for the 4000? Failing *that*, does anyone know of a steel wheel that meets
the criteria(yes, so I'd be putting snows on alloy rims, and the summer tires
on steel. Considering the road up to my house, having 50 profile tires on
steel rims probably isn't that bad an idea anyway).
Thanks,
Alex
