Blind drunk - no Audi content
A drunk driver court case was reported in most of todays UK papers.
A registered blind man (he is blind in the left eye and his vision is
limited to some 4 or 5 feet in his right eye) was prosecuted for driving
whilst drunk. He and his partner had been out drinking and his partner had
drunk rather too much. As he considered her to be 'unfit to drive' he got
behind the wheel of their Austin Montego and drove 2 or 3 miles across town
at a speed of 10 to 15 mph.
According to his defence lawyer "Because he has severe tunnel vision he had
no problems driving in a straight line, it was when he tried to park that he
collided with the other vehicles". The blind man had also exceeded the
blood alcohol limit and was serving a driving ban because of previous
drink-drive offences.
The court took pity on him because his blindness is relatively recent and
would not lock him up.
I leave you to draw your own conclusions about how the courts in the UK are
clamping down on drunks when the police are pushing for a zero alcohol
limit.
