An upcoming version of Litronic, most likely to appear on the Porsche
996(?) will have an electric motor constantly correcting the angle of the
D1 bulb. An extension of this is that it will actually move the bulb
within the assembly to create low beams, high beams, and city drl's
(limited help when you consider that the cheapest I've found D1 bulbs for
were $196). Can reduce tooling costs for the reflectors, decrease the size
to open up design possibilities,etc.
