I was told the reason you UNLOCK at high speeds on dirt is that during 
any transient (jump/ice/etc) any mismatch in the timing of the four
tires hooking back up can exert a spinning moment, causing immeadiate
loss of control.  It happened to someone I know.  Any other data points?
