Strange lunch, mate...

Murgmph snorgt glorph... (a momentary pause for some mandible-pedal
extraction activity...<pop!>)

Ah, *much* better! Now, as I was saying...

Yeah, you probably do think that yer kindly ol' Unka Bart is a wierd one.
Jumpin' around on one foot, while trying to wipe the egg off his face...

Fortunately, having so much practice, I'm becomming quite adroit at the
manuver.

Sooooo... Thanks to Scott and the many others who hastened to point out
what my own Owner's manual plainly states, namely that the 5-speed manual
V8 have a torsen center dif to match the rear one.

And thanks to Jouko, for jogging my one remaining functional memory synapse
by reminding me that the G-50 tranny came in use the year after my baby was
born.

BTW, Juoko, how do the cone-type syncros hold up? I'm sure they're an
improvement over those in the 915s, but then, so would cold butter be...

<heavy sigh...>

But Brett, (Jeez, this avuncular guy does not fear to tread anywhere, does
he? Not what you call a quick learner, I reckon...), I could be wrong
(Major understatement alert!!!) but I *still* gotta disagree about any
relationship between the 944 engine and the 5 beloved of our brethern. It
bears, as one of our other erudite brothers noted, a close resemblance to
the 928, but is an entirely Porsche product. It does use, under license,
Mitsubishi-patented counter-rotating balance shafts. On the other hand,
Jim Pasha (noted 944 expert) says it'll bolt right up to the Audi tranny,
so Quien sabe afterall...?

Finally, for Bob Russell, you didn't mention if your tranny is groaning
under load (acellerating or steady driving) or while decellerating (or
when reading this drivel, for that matter).

Not that it would help me answer your question (fat chance, that), but it
might be significant to one or the other of the folks around here who
actually *know* something...

Yer kindly ol' Unka Bart
