Quattro and the rain ..

So ... a few minutes ago, I was boasting to a colleague about
	how I could drive my quattro with impunity in the rain. And he
	promptly wanted to know why 4WD would make any difference at all
	(over FWD or RWD, that is).  I thought about it, and found that
	I didn't have a coherent answer to it.  I won't go into the
	details, but let's just say that I saw some merit in what he
	was saying.  What do you folks think?  Why is quattro (or any
	other 4WD scheme) better in the rain, if it is at all?
