1987 4kcsq Project
Greetings Quattro Brethren:
Second owner of a snazzy, red, Florida (by way of Rochester, MN '93)
1987 4000 CS Quattro 122k miles and running great (exc. occasional
lifter rattle and you feel 'dirty' after AC has been on) is wondering
whether to commence a project. First post, humbly seeks advice.
Project starts with complete engine rebuild, high-compression pistons,
ceramic low friction coating on the pistons and combustion chambers, a
high-lift cam, light-weight clutch assembly, custom-built
stainless-steel headers and exhaust system--3.5" terminus. A
high-compression, bored-out beast with various other goodies and
projected 30hp improvement. We're in up to $7k now.
This is no minor thing: work would be done by Technical Dimensions.
Serious Porsche racing presence. Makes me want to unleash!
Maybe I stop there. Otherwise, trajectory continues with full
suspension work, and on to paint, then some leather seats and maybe
change black interior to something more FL-friendly. Then tires and
wheels. And maybe think about some interior filtration system to fix
that 'dirty air' feeling. And a sound system!
So finally, I think maybe what I really want is a 200q/a6q/a8q (gotta be
5-spd, though). Would be willing to go $20k.
Tough decisions but fun ground of action. Any advice is appreciated.
