'87 5kTQ Heater Core, Part III
Hi Gang,
The quest to renew my A/C fan blower motor continues. The search for
replacement brushes has not been successful. I've gotten some large size
brushes with shunts (the braided wire attached to the brush) for a large
industrial motor at a electronics surplus output and will cut these down to
size. I've turned the armature on a lathe and to get it square took what
looks like 90% of the original thickness of the copper contacts :( This
motor is probably going to end up as an emergency spare if I get it working
again.
My question is for those listers who have replaced their blower motors with
new units: Does the blower come with the squirrel cage fan? If not, how
hard was it to get the old fan off of the old motor? It being plastic, I'm
a little hesitant to really yank on it.
In the mean time, I'm going to the junkyards today to look at the older
'80-83 5000s to examine their blower motors. Since these models did not
have automatic climate conditioners, I'm hoping that their blower motors
are in better shape.
Good thing I've got two backup Audis-the TQ's been out of commission for
the last 2 weeks because of this heater core/fan motor mess!
