interference fit
you seem to be describing the piston motion as following a square-wave
motion. i believe that it follows a sinusoidal curve, because except at tdc
and bdc the big end of the crank has a sideways motion and not just up and
down. at 90 deg the instantaneous side motion is at max and will then
decrease towards bdc- increase again util max at 270 deg and decrease again
until vertical at tdc. if this is the case the pistons rate of motion
between tdc and bdc is not a constant.
