I don't have the energy to go through the derivation or make pretty
diagrams, but those of you with your own copy of "The Internal Combustion
Engine in Theory and Practice" by Charles Fayette Taylor goes through the
derivation of the formulae for Piston velocity and acceleration.

Therefore, to siimplify, at what angles between 0 and 360 would cosine be
nearest or at the value of one?  This is indeed, our friends, where the
greatest acceleration values are reached.

Oh yeah, almost forgot:  as any engineer, one must assume rigid bodies.  ;^)
