Ah, but the rod is being _compressed_ at BDC and peak cylinder pressure is
way before BDC.  Rods are so much stronger under compression that it's
only the stretching at TDC that you need to worry about.

Looking up the specs, on the MC, exhaust opens 40 deg before BDC, actually
a little later than the NA engine spec of 41.5 deg.
