Re: Actual top speeds

I had a similar reaction when I owned a Golf GTi, the fact of the
matter is that most Speedometers over-read by +10% at full speed. The
reason I know this is Because in my GTi i was capable of doing 155 and
knowing too well that this was codswallop I then I had my speedo
calibrated, I then noticed that my Gti hardly went above 120 Even
though it had a 2000 16V conversion by Oettinger. I hope this helps.

Of various Audi models, most specifically, the 5000/100/200 series, what
are the actual (not Audi brochure) top speeds. I have a dealer service
training manual and is says the top speed of a n/a engine is like 106mph.
I've pinned the speedo (probably 125) on premium. It says the turbo will
do 124. Last year, I did over 140. I'm sure Audi when testing did higher
speeds than this. What is the reason for this? When did Audi start
putting top speed governors on their cars? How much does insurance play a
role in this? The funny thing is that my Audi is more stable at triple
digits than at double.
