Re: Phones for A6

Anthony: I have a '91 200Q that came with the car phone already installed.
It s a Motorola car phone and it worked fine until I took it our in favor of
a hands-free car kit for portable cell phones. You can buy yourself a
StarTAC and have a car kit installed for way less than $1500 and a good
installer will probably make use of your car's existing interface hardware
(since it is likely designed for Motorola). My company (CellPort Labs) is
producing a universal hands-free car kit and this is what I installed in my
car. I run around with Motorola flips, Ericssons, Nokias and StarTACs (so
far) docked in my car, hooked up to antenna, power, and talking hands-free.
The installed mobile phone market is disappearing quickly and I think you
will be happier in the long run by getting yourself a phone you can carry
with you and an associated car kit for that phone.

and buy their proprietary phone for $1,500. Has anyone successfully
installed a phone using the setup built into the car without going to Audi?
Do you know the manufacturer of the phone? Can I choose a phone of my
choice (looking at the new Digital hardware and service carriers) and plug
it into this car?
