Steve:

Bad idea.  You can't get the connection hot enough to melt solder without
breaking the window.  The heat stress on the window at the point of the
solder joint will break it because you need such a high wattage iron to
overcome the thermal inertia of the glass.   Conductive glues exist for
this reason.  If your were to get the connection hot enough you would
probably melt the defroster off the glass too.  See if you can find the
conductive glues/paints. Unfortunately the solder that melts and flows with
a match would also melt and flow with the activation of the (heated)
defroster.  It takes a lot of current to warm the glass enough to melt ice
and defog windows.
