84'4kq vacuume hose bad?

Hi there y'all,
I'm back again. Last night I dug into my engine on my 84 4kq in
search of a vaccume lead which had been present since I removed my
Throttle Body. I found the leak, but cant seem to fix it. Coming out of
the intake, right next the head inbetween the number 3 and 4 cylinder
(counting back from the front) fuel injector lines, is a vaccume hose that
goes back by the battery and joins up with some other large hoses coming
out of the bottom of the accordian intake boot that connects the Mass
airflow sensor plate and the TB. phew! that was a long one, sorry.
Anyhow, the hose is like 1/2" diameter, maybe a little more and feels very
hard. It pulled off of the fitting in the intake manifold and now it
leaks. I tried an new hose clamp to no avail. Do I just need to replace
the hose. IF so, I assume it is cheap but if not, please warn me so I
dont faint at the dealership.
What is it there for? When the engine backfired, I saw white
stuff shoot out of the leaky spot. I think it was the carb cleaner I used
to find the leak.
Thanks, it is really anoying and I want to fix it soon. L8R
