Hmmm. Interesting. I had always thought that 100 degrees Celsius was
pretty good - my Rabbit GTI's oil gauge redlines at 150C, and they put
100C right in the middle of the gague - I'd always taken that as a subtle
implication that 100C is OK. A friend's 911 has red zones below 90C and
above 150C. The VW owners manual suggests backing off at 150, not flooring
it when "down around 50." I get nervous at track events when the oil temp
gets to 130C in my GTI - seems to me that design temperature should be
roughly the same, considering how similar the engines are. Where do you
find design temperatures discussed in factory workshop manuals? I do
believe that 150 Celsius is too hot - and if 100 is too cold, that leaves a
pretty small window to work within. Curious.I agree that the crap needs to
burn out of the oil, but this is the first time I've ever heard any one say
that 100 Celsius is too low. 100 Farenheit would be too low. 100 Celsius?
Seems good to me, but I'm no engineer. Anyhow, thanks! TTYS
