If the bladder disk has separated from the casing, you will have lots of
oil inside--which would be obvious after drilling). By the way, neither
bomb I drilled into had any significant pressure inside--no hissing
sound as I penetrated the casing. I know of no other way of testing how
the bladder will react under high pressure, except to recharge it with
nitrogen and see if any leakage occurs out any of the orifaces. But as
I posted earlier, the bladder appears to be nearly indestructable except
for its attachment to the casing.
Another interesting observation: my first accumulator did not leak but
only a few drops when I undid the line that goes to the brake MC. So,
there seems to be some resistance in the rubber oriface at the opening
of the bladder. But the resistance is very light--that why I could
remove the pentosin inside by pressing on the bladder from the hole I
drilled. In contrast, when I removed a working bomb, a whole bladder
full of Pentosin came out the brake line connector. So, when you undo
the 11mm brake line connector, the amount of fluid that is released
should be an indication of the residual charge of the unit.
Best, Joel
