Ramblings....and Snow & Ice

Well, having just returned from the awards of Snow & Ice, I must say,
I'm most impressed with the Audi showing there.....

First of all....the road to the rally.....

My sons have been doing the rally series since September in their
4KQ's...well, this week, the Audi gods decided there would be two less
Q's in the Snow and Ice.....Stephen's car quit last Sunday......after
replacing the battery, the alternator....it still won't start and seems
to have a mysterious problem witht the magic "blue" wire......

Then, Raymond's Q was running rough and it appeared to need new wires
and dist. cap. After changing those the night before the rally, Dad
takes the car for a short test drive and the tired motor decides this is
it and throws a rod through the front of the block! Dad has never, in
all his years of racing, done a motor in like that and he was babying
the damned thing to boot.

So....it's midnight and we have to decide what cars will run the rally.
Raymond's navigator elects to take his Toyota.....no problem....Stephen
and his navigator elect to take the spare Audi....the 1981 4000 with
300+K miles on it......

To make a long story short....Stephen and Dennis lose the entire exhaust
system on the 4000 (left it in Contoocook)......and still beat all their
friends and their brother in the rally! How, you say? Sheer luck, I
say.....sheer talent say others.....

At any rate.....congrats to all those from the q-list who ran so
well....it was great to see Bob Weintraub and daughter, Paul
Royal...(they looked at your car, Paul....but I think you are not
cursed).....Glenn Lawton, Bob D'Amato, Bob Davis, Mark Besso.....Mike
Collier, the Ciesla's......Chris Semple and Stott Hare......and the many
I don't even know......

AND.....happy 20th to my two boys who celebrated their birthday with you
all today at Snow & Ice, '98......

Take care.
