Audi I6 Engine

Years ago, an Audi mechanic friend of mine was given a copy of an
Audi coffee-table book, whose title was, I think, "History on
Wheels". It was a history of Audi & Auto Union.

One thing I seem to recall reading from that book, was that, as
many of you probably know, the I4 evolved from the I4 engine
by basically adding a cylinder (and delelting the balance shafts).
But I also seem to recall that the book said that Audi/VW also
produced another evolution of the engine, an inline 6 cylinder,
which neither Audi nor VW ever used, but which they produced
for another Nordic car manufacturer.

I had it stuck in my head that this was Volvo, but I really don't
know. How 'bouts y'all?

Anyone know where a copy of this book might be had?
