I believe you, Igor, but usually, the sparking-thing is done with a
special plate and an apparatus that lowers and raises it via a 
cockpit control. It's a Hispanic thing. We even see it up here in
Louisville.

And then, there is another dashboard icon that has been immortalized 
in song:

  "I don't care if it rains or freezes, as long as I have my Plastic 
    Jesus"

Think that may have been David Allen Coe...

There used to be a guy locally who had almost every kitschy item
so far mntioned in this thread, and more, including:

    miniature hurricane lights on the B-pillars;
    a spinner knob on the steering wheel complete with a photo of
      a nude woman under the clear plastic cap;
    every hood ornament sold in the JCW catalog, _all_ on his hood
      (especially the ones that light up);
    multi-sound horn system;
    dummy teardrop spotlights (both sides);

and I'm sure there was more, but that's all I can remember that 
wasn't already mentioned. All on a '63 or '64 Bel Aire or Impala.

I guess some of just adore our adornments....
