Huw's jest urges me to point out that deliberately having a moving
object constantly in one's peripheral vision may train one to ignore
such movement, with the potential consequence of not responding quickly
enough to a running child, dog, cat, deer, etc. I believe that it is
better for driving to not degrade one's ability to detect peripheral
motion, a sense that humans have evolved to a high degree. Observing
hanging objects in other drivers' cars always gives me the impression
that those drivers haven't thought much about the consequences of their
driving habits. (This criticism, of course, doen't apply to those of us
who have tested their response before and after hanging a dingleberry in
their window and who have determined that they are unaffected by its
use.)
