IMHO its the best of both worlds - with an early 89 you get the single knock
sensor, lower compression 86-88 engine with the K-26 turbo. Its easiest to
tweak and develop great power gains for lowest cost. The dual knock sensor
engine has a higher compression, so a bit more low end torque - but its much
harder to raise the horsepower cheaply. That little turbo won't cut it at
the high end - shaft's too small. Secondly, you get the 'redesign' - a much
nicer interior - elongated dash, wood treatments, lumbar support on the
seats, oil pressure guage, better looking dash vents and console
integration. Exterior changes include flush mount door handles, and the
trunk lock relocated to the light bar (this mod actually appeared in 88, I
think).

Planning on finding an 89 200 nonq auto soon for the wife meself... An 89
should actually not be that expensive at this point... Me, I'm having tile
put in this week to the tune of $2000.00 while I find the time to put a new
CV boot ($8.32) on the beast. The gods will make me pay shortly, I assume.
