RE: Oil pan removal - must I pull harmonic balancer?


I removed the pan on the 4KQ without touching the balancer, but I
did lower the subframe, NBD. I would _guess_ that the I5 in the
5KTQ would be very similar.

I'm going to be pulling the oil pan on the 5KCSTQ and the Bentley says I
have to lower the subframe (expected) and remove the harmonic
balancer (unexpected).  Can you get the pan off without removing the
balancer?
