Selling it (formerly H&R Springs)
Hey Folks,
I agree with Eric and Alex on this issue. It can be difficult to be
both a Q-lister and a person directly involved with the sales of
merchandise of interest to the Q-list. Often I'll see Audis come into the
lot, new and used, that might be of interest to the Q-list. Of course, if
it's a S-series car I'd tell the list. But what about all the 90s, 100s,
A4s, and A6s that are showing up off of leases. Do I tell the list? I think
the best thing to do is to run it by Dan, but I don't think Dan wants to
act as a censor for Vendors. There is a strong dichotomy here and sometimes
(especially when Audi salespeople are being roasted) I feel as if I've
given in to my hate and joined the Dark Side!
With the keyring deal, I didn't feel guilty about it because I
didn't receive any money from the sales. Actually, I received some subtle
groans and snickers from the parts department. But with items that I'm
directly involved with I don't want to cross the boundaries of the list.
A couple of months ago we sold a used V8q with 115K on it. We took
a huge LOSS on the car, but had no choice on the matter. The car had to go.
Since I don't find the V8's especially attractive, I didn't mention it to
the list. Only later did I realize that many people might have been
interested in a V8q.
I don't want to be a salesman scoping the list, but the fact
remains that now I'm earning a living by selling these things. I was a
lister over a year before I started sellling Q's, but that doesn't seem to
matter much now. In 4-6 months, I'll no longer be a salesman of used and
new audis. I'll once again be on the good side of the force (although maybe
I can keep my discount for labor/parts at work).
I think the best solution is a "vendor/for sale page" linked off
the Q-list. On it we can list anything and everything of possible interest
to the Q-list, catagorized for easy viewing. Classifieds would expire 3
weeks after posting. Rules would have to be enacted.. blah..blah.. blah. I
think Dan might already be working on it. Dan? Comments anybody? It think
this is something the q-list community as a whole would benefit from. When
people misuse the privledge... they can be booted, like the guy who changed
his mind about selling the car at asking price and instead started a
bidding war on his car.
