'91 200Q Climate control problem

Hi Guys:  Sorry for this question, but the search engine is down and I don't
have time to browse the archives for this.  My climate control in the '91
200Q seems only capable of blowing hot air.  As the car heats up and the
heat turns on, it just keeps getting hotter.  Then the upper dash vents
start blowing (as I'm sure the system is trying to cool) but hot air blows
out.  Pressing the auto switch turns on the compressor, but it can't
overcome the hot air.  Setting the temp to LO sometines brings out some cool
air.  It seems like control over the hot air damper is lost and everything
else is working fine.  

Again, sorry since I'm sure this has been asked a thousand times.
