Audi Sport UK Lifts
I don't know about the specific lifts you are referring to, but they sound very
similar to one we used in a Corvair shop near DC. It was German-made, electro
hydraulic. It had two bars (somewhat adjustable for wheelbase) that worked
like a forklift. Range was up to about 7'. I got really spoiled by using this
beast. Not only could you go up and down in minuscule increments, the thing
was actually on wheels and could be moved horizontally. (In replacing a
transmission, it was almost easier to leave the trans alone on the trans jack
and move the car to work in the input shaft.) In fact, you could easily pick
up a car and move it to the other side of the shop. We also had a heavy
electrical extension and could roll this thing out in the parking lot to lift a
car outside and work on it/ move it around. Everything always at the right
height: no bending, stooping, etc. Capacity: no idea, but it easily lifted my
full size pickup. We also used it to cram more cars in the garage overnight by
parking another car under the lifted one. (Customers would pay extra for
inside storage.. it was DC ya know.) I'm currently looking for one of these
lifts (used, cheap) for my under-construction backyard shop.
