You are correct, and a nice summary it is, Jon, thanks!

As an addendum (not a correction) to what Jon said, note that the first
generation of 4KQs used the same push-pull dif lock as the Quantum Syncro.

And the Vanagon Syncro is completely different.  It does not use the Audi
quattro system at all, but uses a viscous coupling that brings the rear
wheels into play when there is slippage in the front.
