'88 5kCD questions

OK, so I finally drove my new (to me) car last night.  Gotta question
about the windshield squirters.  On the stalk, the windshield stalk is
different than my current '84 5k, and my old '87 TQ.  This one pulls
towards me, pushes away from me, and has a button on the end like a
cruise control set button.  I was told by the previous owner that the
squirters didn't work.  I pulled the stalk towards me, nothing happened.
I pushed the stalk away from me, and the high beams came on (there ya go
Scott!!)  I pushed the button on the end, & the thing squirted bug juice
clear over the roof & soaked my girlfriend standing behind the car.
Happy Valentine's Day, hon...  There is no owners manual in the car, so
I don't know how the thing is supposed to work.  It's Canadian, and has
the ultra-squirter option (high-intensity washer system?)  Anyhow, is
the stalk supposed to flip forward & backwards, or is it busted?  Anyone
have an owners manual for an '88 5000CD TQ?
