TIMING BELT INSTALLATION

A FEW OF MY FRIENDS CAME UP WITH A BEAUTIFUL WAY TO REMOVE THE
CRANKSHAFT NUT, WHEN INSTALLING TIMING BELTS.
VICE GRIP MAKES CHAIN WRENCH FOR AROUND $20 THAT WORKS BEAUTIFULLY
WHEN PUT AROUND THE CRANKSHAFT PULLY TO LOCK UP THE ENGINE. IF YOU
NEED MORE LEVERAGE THAN THE WRENCH CAN PROVIDE, SLIDE A PIPE ONTO THE
     THREADED SIDE OF THE PLIERS.
ONCE YOU HAVE ALL OF THE MARKS LINED UP (TDC ETC...), PLACE THE
CHAIN AROUND THE CRANKSHAFT PULLY TO LOCK EVERYTHING IN PLACE, AND USE
A BREAKER BAR TO REMOVE THE NUT. THIS WORKS REALLY WELL!!!

NOTE: IT IS A GOOD IDEA TO WRAP AN OLD TIMING BELT, OR RAG AROUND THE
     PULLY BEFORE CLAMPING IT ON.

THIS HAS BEEN SUCESSFUL ON TWO AUDI I5'S, AND SEVERAL HONDA'S ALREADY.

     GOOD LUCK,
     BRIAN. BLARSON@ZEISS.COM
