And every now and then one will turn out to be genuine. I think it depends
on what else is going on - if there's no one else around, why shouldn't a
salesman 'give it his all' even though he's absolutely certain there'll be no
sale. After all, the dork might have an uncle, and might say: "You know,
uncle, I met this _really_ nice guy in this dealership, and he was polite even
though we both knew I wasn't going to buy ..."
It can pay. Walking the floor is a deal-by-deal job, but also a p/r job.

I have had a fairly violent disagreement with the local marketing managers at
Audi UK. Nonetheless, the outlet that _used_ to do both VW and Audi but now
only does VW remains a paragon of helpfulness - Autohaus Wellingborough.
