RE: A4 1.8T chips-- why not factory?
Few facts:
1. In Germany tax rates depend on engine horsepower. The output of 1.8T
engine was limited to 150hp to make it fit into lower tax range.
2. All cars offered on American market are supposed to run on 87 AKI octane
gas (I've been told)
4. Audi did not want 1.8T version to outperform V6 models, which are most
likely much more profitable.
5. Audi _does_ chip the 1.8T "at the works" - in Germany you can buy A4 1.8T
prepped by Audi's factory tuner, Quattro GmbH. Chipped engine develops 193hp
and carries full Audi warranty.
