Split cv boots

I noticed that my front pass. driveshaft has a torn outer boot (this after
I replaced it over the summer). I wanted to know if split cv boots are any
good and are they a permanent or temporary fix. I plan on replacing it,
it's just time doesn't permit. I do grease it every couple of days. I've
done this in the past and never had a driveshaft click on me from boot
failure. It's only borrowed time, though.
