500,000 km and counting

My insurers tried to foist a calculation on me, to the effect that the 90000
mile MB I found advertised for GBP9500 meant that mine, with 150000, was only
worth GBP5500.
"No," said I, "you don't understand. Audis _INCREASE_ in value with each mile
they don't break down."

I'd accept bullfighting and motor racing as sports. Not mountaineering.
Sheer, unremitting terror lasts only seconds in a motor car. On a sheer rock
face, you can sometimes realise that the lives of yourself and your companions
depend on sustained flawless performance for tens of minutes or even hours. It
is a uniquely obsessing feeling. Especially when you find that you have to
climb two or more grades above your normal level to extricate your group from
something unexpected.
In cars, these situations are over before you have time to think about it. On
a mountain, controlling your introspection is part of the process. BTDT.
