4Kq gearing

Christian Long lent my brother a 1986 brochure of the 4000/Coupe GT.  That
brochure specifically states that the 4000q uses a 4.11:1 final drive with
a 0.83:1 fifth gear ratio.

This doesn't rule out the possibility that some (maybe a lot) of 4000qs
came with a 3.9:1 final drive (grabbing parts from the 5000q line?), as
Audi has a history of mix-'n-match parts.  However, if we believe Audi
literature, then some later-model 4000 quattros did have the "better" final
drive gearing.
