BTDT's on radiator replacement?

i did my 86 tqw recently and it should be the same.
i hope it's not too late...
- i hope you got the 3 row all metal radiator.
- i hope you got all new rubber mounting pieces (they call em buffers
in the fiche - 2 or 3 small ones on top and 1 big un at the bottom)
- i replaced the rad fan thermostat and the multifunction sensor
while it was easy to do.
- also a handy time to replace some hoses (i had done it recently),
especially the hard-to-get lower-rad-to-engine hose and the lower
reservoir-to-rad hoses.
- i also splurged on all new stainless steel replacement hardware, but
that may be too a.r. for you
- the actual job is quite simple. i used the haynes procedure.
disconnect battery, disconnect fan wires, drain coolant, remove upper
shroud, unscrew lower shroud and lower nounting nut,
undo upper mounting nuts, remove coolant reservoir, remove other
hoses, separate ac condensor from the rad and snake it out of
there. i think i also loosened some wiring between the abs box and the
fender to make some room. i also removed he aux coolant pump to
prevent damage. it's a close fit, but i didn't bust any knuckles or
scrape the new rad getting it in.
- depending on your style, it will take somewhere between an hour and
"an afternoon"
