And the official word that I have from my Dunlop dealer is that the SP8K
hasn't actually been discontinued/obsoleted.

The SP8K and SP9K are geared towards different types of enthusiasts.  If
you are looking for an all-around good tire that will grip like stink in
the wet, go for the SP9K.  However, it does give up some turn-in and dry
grip to the SP8K because of this.

The recommendations that I've gotten say that if you are looking for the
ultimate in dry grip, or you want a good dual-purpose tire for street
and track schools.
