Alex,
Sounds like when they removed the A/C belt, they left the alternator
belt too slack, and it's slipping. They should be able to tighten it for
you no problem.

Shop around for a replacement a/c compressor (either used with warranty,
or new, mail-order), get a new receiver/dryer also and have an
independent repair shop install them. It's not rocket science, and
you'll save a bundle over the dealer.
