Exactly! This explains how a slightly heavier car with higher gearing
(1st/2nd/3rd/4th gears lower numerically, less engine revs/gear) can
accelerate quicker in the 1/4 mile test. More torque produced over the
RPM range that occurs during a WOT, redline shifting exercise down the
1/4 mile.
The US S4 has a larger drop in gear ratio, percentage wise, between the
shift from 1st to 2nd when compared to the 1991 200TQ, , BUT, it
actually has closer spaced gear shifts between 2nd/3rd/4th/5th (This
assumes the US S4 uses a 0.93 4th gear.)
