hello and a question

Hi, I've just subscribed to the list. I own a 1988 5000S Quattro w/ 105K
miles. The car is in very good shape, except that little items are starting
to go now. Which brings me to my question -- does anyone have advice or a
source for a new shift boot? The dealer wants $188 for one! Will any other
model boot (80/90) fit?

Also, can the A/C system be converted to the new refrigerant? Anyone have
any experience or opinions on that? The A/C (and hence defog) is not working
well right now, so I'm wondering what my options are. (The index search on
the web page doesn't seem to work, so I apologize if this is a FAQ).
