Origins of the GT Designation

That's the way I've always heard it. The Lancia Aurelia embodied the
GT spirit as well as any car - truly a grand tourer. Of course, when GT
badges became fashionable, it seemed that many a cynical
manufacturer attached them to any old nail of a product that needed a
marketing boost. Fortunately, Audi did well with the Coupe GT, a car
that lives up to the promise of its name.
