Re: 85 5kst Central Locking Woes -- Historic fix
Rolled up my sleeves to dive into finding the problem with Central
Locking System. I took all the suggestions from the listers and started
with the easiest suggestion first which was to unplug and re-plug the
vacuum unit power source.
The night before I had gone into the front door panel and then briefly
inspected the vacuum unit. Tonight I found the surprise after close
inspection. The vacuum unit had failed but in a very unique manner.
Battery acid had gotten on the fiber noise covering for the vacuum, and
then the plastic housing of the vacuum, and then the circuit board of
the vacuum and burned away all the solder on the push side power
supply. The connection was disconnected by battery acid! Can you
believe it!
The vaccuum looked like it had a bite taken out of the plastic housing.
A quick cleaning and a solder job and the old vacuum is working again.
Who would have thought battery acid. I would almost guess this may be a
first, but then again this is probably not a historic fix in the history
of the Audi.
Thanks for all the suggestions. The easiest suggestion got me all the
way home, but in a unique manner.
Thanks again,
Patrick Eades
