Distributor Rattle

All,

I just got off the phone with my mechanic, who has just take the
distributor out of my car.  A new distributor had been put into the car
just before I bought it, about three months ago.  At that time, I heard a
small rattle coming from the general area of the distributor.  It's been
getting worse since then.

After visiting the 20v site, and seeing the explanation of distributor
rattle, I though "Aha, that's it...".  However, my mechanic states "I
pulled it out, and it's got less play than most Audi distributors".  He
doesn't feel that there is anything wrong with the distributor.

What's wrong with this picture?  Has anyone else had this problem? Could it
be something else?  Is my mechanic a fool?  It's a place that does
Audi/BMW/Porsche work, and most of the mechanics have Audis.  They have
been competant so far.
