Report on David Kavanugh's MAC11b Modifications

Hey Listers!

I've been running David Kavanaugh's MAC11b mods
since last Saturday. I am astonished at the way
it has improved drivability. Even off-boost
throttle response is better, and I can't imagine
why...

...unless it's because I violated a cardinal rule
of empirical experimentation.... I thre in another
variable by adding ProLong Fuel System Treatment
and ProLong Engine Treatment to the car. Yes, I
finally succumbed to an infomercial. At least I
didn't order the stuff, they had the kit at Pep Boys.

Back to the ECU mods: I've seen 1.5 bar a few times,
and may have cought a gimpse of 1.6. I suppose when
my Charlie spring arrives, it'll help the boost a
bit more.

But I'm still astonished by the off-boost throttle
response... between 2000 and 3000rpm, it's pulling
strong, and when the boost comes on, woo woo!

I'm wondering of Audi ever hand-tuned the tables
in their ECUs, or if they use some other computer
program to generate the tables based on a set of
input parameters. I just can't imagine why they
would not have shipped the car with this much
power if they knew how...
